Top List of Social Networking sites
Wap Review recently made a long list of Social Media sites, and so I thought I would give you these. How many work with a Kindle would be for you to find out, but there are certainly a lot of them out there!
SurfWap has another long list of mobile social network sites you may be interested in exploring further.
Here are some more I found on the web
http://m.livejournal.com is a vibrant global social media platform where users share common passions and interests. With hundreds of communities built around popular themes and issues.
http://mobile.twitter.com/ is a firm favourite. We all know it works as we can already Twitter our favourite quotes, books and ratings to Twitter. I just thought you would like to know they also have a mobile site you can chat on.
http://m.twitstat.com lets you automate your Twitter account.
http://m.ubersocial.com is a full featured mobile web interface to Twitter built especially for mobile phones by the good folks at UberMedia.
http://m.facebook.com is not one to try for the first time unless you happen to be near your desktop computer as when you first run it, FaceBook detects you are logging in using a different computer, i.e. your Kindle, and freezes your account. You then need to confirm that you are the real owner and then it lets you in and runs normally, while sending you an email to tell you that your account was frozen until you replied to the email... good when it works, but you need a decent connection to jump through the hoops!
Mobile Google lets you create your own blog and email account. I really liked it and I thought I would include it here, as it may let you build your own little Social Media site, where you can share your thoughts with everyone.
http://m.myspace.com is the place to look at your MySpace account on the move.
http://wap.mocospace.com is a Mobile community where you can meet people, play games, and chat. There is a share pics option which I doubt will work on a Kindle.
http://m.shelfari.com is a social media site is focused on books. Members can build virtual bookshelves, discover, rate and discuss books, and participate in online groups. Yoiu first need to link the site to your amazon.com account, and then you can add all your Amazon.com purchase details to the site and catalogue them... this could be the book marking system lots of Kindle users have been waiting for.
http://www.bebo.com/m is a popular social networking site which connects you to everyone and everything you care about.
http://m.jaiku.com Post Jaikus, add icons, customize your design, share your Web feeds. All from a Kindle. The site looks good - let me know how you find it.
http://m.ebuddy.com Chat directly in the browser of any device! No downloads are required and it works with all mobile devices.
http://m.wordpress.com lets you blog while on the move. As a Kindle has a full keyboard, it is great to use it for more than just adding one - liners about the book you are reading. Try to take up the challenge of blogging on a Kindle into work etc....
http://wap.cellufun.com is the world's largest social gaming community where people meet, chat & play over 35 free games! I used it to adopt a virtual rabbit for an hour or two as I tested this site to see if it worked on a Kindle. It was a nice break.
http://wapspell.com provides Social Networking, Chat, Find Friends, High-Level Discussions, Technology Discussions, Blogging, Jokes, LIVE NEWS and more
http://peperonity.com/ is available in German, English, French, Italian Portuguese and Polish, claims 460,000 users and 3.5 million mobile pages and is Admob's largest publisher. It lets you create a mobile blog with video and photo sharing, friends list, downloads and chat.
http://wap.ebay.com is the world's largest auctioning site. As you mix and mingle and leave messages, I thought I would add it to my social network page. It works if you live in a developed country, but not from places like Romania, where they worry about credit card fraud and getting the stuff to you in one piece... but then again, it is the same story for most websites.
Why should you use a Kindle to explore your social network sites?
Turning the Kindle to social media machine was easier than I expected it to be. As there is more than one mobile site directory out there, I have listed the best two I have come across, and I am sure that a lot of their listings will work well on the Kindle.
As always, if you happen to know of a listing that works well for you, and I have not personally included it in my social network page, please take the time to tell me, so I can add it to this page. Likewise, if you try one of my listings and discover that it does not work on a Kindle, let me know, so it can quietly disappear and be replaced by a different site. As there are so many social networks out there, I have not had a chance to test them all out on anything more than their home pages and so I am really curious to see how well a Kindle functions with them.
I think that using a Kindle to boost your social network is a great idea, simply as we all have a great internet coverage, and we are no longer tied to a heavy laptop, or desktop, we may as well have a bit of fun meeting others around us, and doing a little more than just reading, which if you don't take care, or share your reading, defeats the use of a social network.
Let me know what you think of these sites, and I will try to keep on improving them for you.
